Captain Linda partnering Carol Johnson took both their rubbers in straight sets for the loss of only three games, 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 respectively whilst the second pairing of debutants Lisa Jones and Jo Dailetos were equally impressive in their rubbers with a nerveless display winning 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-3.

This was a fine opener for the new team who have a heavy load of ten fixtures to play.

The Ladies third team trekked across the county to Market Drayton which saw mixed fortunes when their Captain sustained a torn calf muscle five minutes into the first pair’s rubber resulting in her immediate retirement.  This left the second pair of Jo Dailetos and partner Lisa Jones having to play their rubbers to get the team any points.   They were successful  in the first  in straight sets but just  lost  out on the second in the deciding third set tie break but the one point won could prove to be very valuable later in the season..

This match was posptoned due to rain and was rescheduled to complete their season. With players unavailable Captain Linda Clark had to make some tactical decision with her team line up.  Selecting Carolyn Yates to partner Clare Hann as first pair proved to be a good move when they were victorious in both their rubbers in straight sets.  Playing together for the first time Linda partnered Nicky Hughes and although they lost both their rubbers they took a set off the Town Walls second pair and this was enough to give the Oswestry ladies victory by five sets to four and therefore a valuable six points.  In their first foray in the league the team have performed very well and are currently sitting in a promotional place but with some fixtures still to be played their final position will be determined by the results yet to be returned.d

With Captain Linda Clark out injured and a player becoming unavailable at the last minute there were two new partnerships thrown into the breach.  New member Carolyn Yates, playing her debut match for the club, partnered Carol Johnson and they proved very successful in their first rubber against the opposing first pair taking it in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 and they continued to play well  in their reverse rubber taking the first set 6-2 but dropped the second set 4-6 and then narrowly lost out on the third set tie break 0-1 (10-12).The second pair of Jo Dailetos and Helen Lowe didn’t fair quite so well and they lost both of their rubbers

The ladies third team had a home fixture against a team from Hamner.  The team was struggling  to  find players due to  unavailability  and injuries so Captain Linda Clark had to play which wasn’t ideal just coming back from a calf injury. She partnered Jo Dailetos and they lost both their rubbers in straight sets.  The first 3-6,1-6, but the second was much tighter 5-7, 6-7.  The second pair of Carol Johnson and Carolyn Yates had two very long rubbers with both being lost in the deciding third set tie break.
