The ladies first team travelled to the Shrewsbury Club to play their first team and had an eventful evening on the club’s grass courts.  After an initial shaky start the team got into their rhythm with the first pairing of Eirian Jones and Flo Malherbe just losing out to Shrewsbury’s first pair in a third set championship tiebreak, whilst the second pair of Josie Macrae and Kat Oakley were also taken to a deciding third set tiebreak against the Shrewsbury second pair but managed to take it which made the score all square going into the reverse rubbers.  Jones and Malherbe continued to press forward to give themselves a well earned victory whilst Macrae and Oakley took victory in straight sets over the Shrewsbury first pair.  This was the first time that the Oswestry ladies had taken the scalp of the Shrewsbury’s first team and it earned them a very rewarding seven points..

The ladies first team travelled across the county to play the current league champions Bridgnorth where they have never registered a win. The first pair of Jo Macrae and Kat Oakley started off  with a steady and powerful  win against the Bridgnorth first  pair  whilst second  pair  Eirian  Lloyd-Jones  and  Flo  Malherbe  had  an  impressive  win  over Bridgnorth’s second.  At the half way point Oswestry held a commanding two love lead going into the reverse rubbers.  Macrae and Oakley had a very competitive game just losing out in the third set deciding tie break but the stars of the evening proved  to  be  Lloyd-Jones  and  Malherbe  who  came  out  triumphant  against  the Bridgnorth first pair giving the Oswestry ladies their first ever well deserved victory and seven points against the league champions.

The Oswestry Tennis Club’s ladies first team had their last away fixture of the season  against Shifnal 1, a team who were newly promoted into Group 1 last season,so they had high expectations after their most recent victories and they didn’t want to themselves down. The first round rubbers  started  disappointingly  for  the  first  pair  of  Captain Josie Macrae and Kat Oakley with too many mistakes and as a consequence they lost to the Shifnal first pair but the second pair of Eirian Lloyd-Jones and Fiona Russellsoon steadied the ship with a quick win over the Shifnal second pair making the scores all square. In  the  reverse  rubbers  Macrae  and  Oakley  re-invented  themselves  and  soon rediscovered their  form to take victory over the Shifnal  second pair  whilst  Lloyd-Jones and Russell powered their way past the opposing first pair to give the ladies yet another superb 3-1 victory and seven points to their league tally.  With just two home fixtures remaining the championship is tantalisingly close.

The ladies first team had a convincing win against Shrewsbury but failed to get the full 8 points due to the final rubber being unfinished by 10pm when the lights went out. With one match to go the ladies need to score the full 8 points to win the league for the first time in the club's history. Good Luck!
